My Tio Jorge was the coolest cat I’ve ever known. He was my uncle, my brother, and my friend. During my childhood and teenage years, Jorge always treated me as an equal. He was interested and he cared.
Every time we were together was a joy. He could tell a story like no one else. He made people laugh and feel good about themselves.
There was always something to be learned from him. And he was always ready to learn from others, with an almost childlike wonder and amazement. From him, I learned how to be sufficiently serious about life, while simultaneously laughing at it. He shaped much of my character in more ways than either one of us may have realized.
It is a difficult task to accurately describe the sadness I feel as his time among us expires. But I am comforted and grateful that this fabulous man was a part of my life for so many years.
