Jim and his wife Verna, were mainstays of the community. Extremely hard-working fellow and pleasant to work with. I was connected to the Oligachlager family in a number of ways, of course I went to high school with his kids in the late 70s, and I worked with Verna at the Lodge in Montauk for a couple of seasons too. She always knew what was going on. They hired me to paint a mural on the bottom of their swimming pool at their beautiful home south of Licking. One of my first and last paid art projects. Wish I had a photo of it. And then, of course, in my freshman year at the University of Missouri, Keith and I were roommates at Rolla. We had some great times, including the time we slaughtered a goat out at the charcoal plant using Jim's pocket knife. Jim made me go back twice to clean it up before giving it back to him, lol. Keith will remember that story. Rest in peace, Jim, and wishing peace and love to your family.--Jim Cotton

With great love and sorrow... To all of Jim's family and friends... My deepest condolences! Big Slim Jim is what I always called him! He was a great man that enjoyed people!!! Never in the morning i remember but so often in the evening selling the tags for the next day! If you were going to Montauk from Licking you passed his place every time! An imposing man of great height and a smile even bigger! I am lucky enough to call him an old friend!!!

We enjoyed seeing Jim when we visited Montauk Park. He always had a smile and friendly word when we bought our tags. It was especially welcome in March when season opened and winter was finally over.

RIP Jim you will always be missed! When my husband and I come down to Montauk on Vacation you were always a big part of our it the laughter and smiles. Condolences to the Family and Friends you were lucky to have him in your life! I had a feeling these might be my last photos of him working at Montauk. The first photo I gave to him framed when we discovered Montauk several years before the other photos. He said his wife told him to scare the mice off with it lol. Ya never know when he was kidding or not sometimes but we gave it back lol.

We were always greeted with a smile by Jim when we came into the lodge. He was a very kind man. The lodge won't be the same without him. There was never a question year to year if he would be there on opening day smiling and buzzing around the lodge. He will be greatly missed.
Keeping his family, friends and Montauk family in our thoughts and prayers.
As always, Love the McFarlin family.
