Obituary of Wanda Lea Rodgers

Wanda Lea Rodgers, 91, Prairie Village, Kansas, passed away Nov.27, 2019, at Brighton Gardens, Prairie Village.  She was a resident since Oct. 2012.  Wanda was born Oct. 9, 1928, in Licking, MO.  She attended Licking H.S. and worked for Intercounty Electric Cooperative as a secretary.  She married George Howard Rodgers on June 22, 1946.  She worked for the University of Missouri at Columbia while George went to school. She also worked for an accounting firm in Denver while George studied Medicine at the University of Colorado.  They moved to Mt. Ayr, Iowa, in 1950 where Doug was born and George practiced Medicine.  They moved to Germany while George was in the Army from 1956-1957.  Upon their return David was born.  Wanda stayed home with the kids in Kanas City, spoiling all three boys terribly.  Wanda was a proud member of Leawood South C.C. and played many rounds of golf with George and her many friends.  Wanda is the daughter of the late Alvin Leo Martin and Maggie Marie Martin (Schlup).  She is preceded in death by her brother Harrison Martin and her loving husband of 67 years, George Howard Rodgers, M.D..  She is survived by her son, Douglas A. of Overland Park, KS and David M. Rodgers of Vero Beach, FL; Maggie Rodgers; her loving grandchildren, Carl William (Susan)  of Phoenix, AZ, and Elizabeth Claire Rodgers of Prairie Village, KS.  She leaves many friends and relations.  The family is especially grateful for her friends and the loving staff at Brighton Gardens who took such good care of her.  Visitation will be at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, Dec. 3, followed by the funeral at 1:00 pm at Fox Funeral Home, 128 S. Main St., Licking with Reverend Gary Carter officiating.  Interment will follow at the Licking Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
