Obituary of May Darlene Hicks

Please share a memory of May to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

May Darlene Hicks, 48, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019.  May was born on May 18, 1971 in St. Louis, Missouri and was a life long state resident.

During her life she was the middle child of 5 girls.  Besides being a daughter, May was first a little sister, then a big sister.  She was an avid reader - a lover of great novels (especially Stephen King).  She was an artist, and it didn’t matter with what – she loved crafts, painting and coloring - she treasured her adult coloring books and markers.  She was a great friend, volleyball player, and mother. Earlier this year she began writings of her own – starting out with a few heartfelt poems.  More of her favorite pass times included camping, floating, and listening to music – some of her old favorites were Kenny Rodgers, Steve Miller Band, Charlie Daniels, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Goo Goo Dolls, Bob Seger, Stevie Nix and Black Eyed Peas.

She is survived by her daughter Ashley and sisters Rebecca Bryson, Tammy How, Kim Crader & Michelle Sample. She is preceded in death by her mother Roberta Counts (McDaniel), (step) father, Harmon Counts, grandmother Betty McDaniel (Cockburn), and grandfather Robert Leon McDaniel.

Our sister accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior in the past year, and we rest in the promise that we will see her again.  May knew that even when we cannot see it, God is in control.

May was a lifetime member of Licking VFW post 6337. Memorial services will be held Sunday, November 3 at 1pm in the Licking MO VFW hall. A trust account has been set up for Ashley – for more information, or if you would like to contribute, please contact 636-448-1927.
