Obituary of Marie Thomas

Velma "Marie" Thomas (Prier), 91, daughter of John H. and Elizabeth Keeney Prier, was born April 12, 1928, at Prescott, Missouri. She died June 2, 2019 at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County, MO.

Marie grew up in the Licking, MO area enjoying life on the farm with her large family. She married Henry Thomas of Sherrill, MO, in 1948, worked at the Rawlings Factory making baseballs until the birth of her daughter and in 1956 the family moved to St. Louis.

In 1988, Marie returned to Licking, MO. She enjoyed being back in the country where she stood on her porch at the Licking Senior Housing and watched the cows and horses. She enjoyed tending to her roses and small garden. Marie was active in the church, loved being close to family and running around with her friends.

Marie moved back to St. Louis, MO in 2013 to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, grandkids, and family.  Marie enjoyed gardening, keeping a clean house, cooking and made one heck of a pie. Marie was a true fighter; she lived a long life and was a two-time cancer survivor. Marie was very appreciative of everyone that touched her life. She always shared stories of the love, kindness and generosity she experienced over her lifetime.

She is preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Frank, Leland, Henry, Rancy and Cecil; and five sisters, Ellen Crooks, Stella Stimpson, Fern Scott, Effie Grooms and Juanita Adams. Surviving are her daughter Sandra Elizabeth Renfrow (Thomas), son-in-law George Renfrow, grandchildren Stacy Renfrow, Nicholas Renfrow; brother Floyd "Gene" of St. Peters; and many, many nieces and nephews.
