Obituary of Jay Osborne

Please share a memory of Jay to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jay Silas Willard Osborne passed away Sunday evening March 3, 2013 at his home in Licking, Missouri as a result of a long battle with cancer. Jay was born to Thomas Winston Osborne and Beulah Ina (Weaver) Osborne on July 26, 1936 in Rogers Creek, a little community near Freemont, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Alta (Davidson) Osborne on September 1, 1953 and to this holy matrimony , Jay and Alta had 5 children. In 1953 Jay was brought into and worked along side of his father in the Carpenters Union #2298 of greater St. Louis. After successfully completing his apprenticeship to journeyman training, Jay and Alta moved to Colorado where he applied his trade. After a few years, they moved back to Missouri continuing his trade as a carpenter. Jay retired in 1994 after a 36 year career as a well respected union carpenter. He then worked as an independent contractor in and around the Licking community, to include Rolla, Ft. Leonard Wood, and Cabool, up until 2009 when his battle with cancer began. Jay had a loving heart and never knew a stranger. That was evident at times when traveling to other parts of the country, someone might ask “Where are you from?”, we would say Licking, Missouri and they would reply, “I know a fella down there named Jay Osborne.” He is survived by his loving wife, Alta Osborne of the home; four children, Greg and wife Pat Osborne of Springfield, Missouri, Joni Scott and husband Todd of Licking, Missouri, Lori Held and husband David of Licking, Missouri and Rodney Osborne of Licking, Missouri; 8 grandchildren, Travis, Shawn, Shelly, Michael, Dustin, Bailie, Cody and Shea; and 5 great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Beth Ann; and three siblings, Kay, Joann and Ivan.
