I grew up with Lawrence's son, Alan, and we caused enough trouble throughout the years it probably prematurely aged the poor man; however, despite our rowdiness, I never heard a cross word or any demeaning rhetoric from Lawrence. I spent many many hours at the Bates residence and was always treated with respect and kindness.
I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the Bates family and all of his close friends.
