Obituary of Dora L. Meier

Dora Meier of Licking, MO died at her home on May 25, 2016, at the age of 76. Dora was born December 30, 1939 in Light, Arkansas to Ray and Cullen (Faulkner) Sturkie. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Rodger Barrow. Dora is survived by her husband Paul Meier of Licking. She is also survived by her brother Danny (Evelyn) Sturkie of Paragold, AR, and one nephew Chad (Marlo) Sturkie and their daughter Carroline of Paragould, AR. Dora earned an associate degree from Southern Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, AR, a Bachelor’s degree from Arkansas State College in Jonesboro, AR, and a master degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dora taught English and Journalism for four years at Alton High School, Alton, MO. She taught 36 years in Licking School District (4 years in high school and 32 in elementary school). Dora especially enjoyed kindergarten students. Dora and Paul enjoyed many road trips to various parts of the country. She loved visiting Silver Dollar City to hear the Kruger Brothers perform. Dora professed her faith in Christ at the age of 9 in Light, AR, and was an active member of the First Baptist Church, attending regularly as long she was able. She greatly enjoyed her Sunday School Class and the WMU Missions Group. She strongly supported mission offerings. Dora made friends with many people while volunteering at the Licking United Community Help Center. For many years Dora supported organizations that helped hungry children and rescued abused animals. Dora had many friends. She loved meeting with members of the Licking Tops Club, the Texas County, MO Retired Teacher’s and her table mates at P.J.’s Café.
