David Eugene Edwards of Gulfport, Mississippi, formerly of Licking, Missouri passed away on May 19, 2014 at the age of 85. David was born April 30, 1929 in Hamlet, North Carolina to Hazel and Henry Edwards.
David was united in marriage to Jeannette (Sebold) Edwards and is survived by his children Jean Gyovai and son-in-law Mike Gyovai of Licking, MO and son, Raymond Sebold of Montaque, MA., grandchildren Richard, Tim, Michael, Abel and Philip, great grandchildren, niece, nephew and extended family and friends as well.
He was nicknamed “PapPap and Pepper” by his grandchildren and loved to keep in touch with them all by email and to receive pictures, jokes and political cartoons. He also loved to play pool daily with his friends at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport and was always up for a game when anyone visited.
David learned to fly when he was 17 years old and went on to serve in the Air Force, Navy and Army, retiring in 1972. He served on the U.S.S. Boxer in the Korean War, was a member of the Army Security Agency and served in Shemya, Alaska, as well as Ethiopia and Turkey. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and U.S.S. Boxer Veteran’s Association.
David is preceded in death by his parents, sister, and wife.
