Obituary of Hubert W. Caton

Hubert Wayne Caton was born September 20, 1928 the sixth child to the late William Franklin Caton & Flossie
May Walker Caton. He went to his heavenly home April 6, 2014 at Missouri Veterans Home in St. James,Mo.
with family and friends by his side.
Hubert was born and grew up in Licking Mo. and lived all his life there except the 4 years he served his country
in the United States Air Force.
Hubert married Virginia Venable September 1948 and to this union 2 children were born. Russell Lee and
Melodia Sue.
In February 1980 Hubert married Phyllis Pownall.
Hubert was a member of Licking First Baptist Church where he served as Treasurer for 26 years, served as a
Deacon & earned a Certificate of Recognition of Deacon Emeritus award, served as general secretary to Sunday
School for many years till his health failed, helped teach 2 & 3 year old Sunday School class and served where
ever needed.
Hubert was a life member of the VFW, DAV, American Legion. He worked for Intercounty Electric for 33
years both as a lineman and later a computer programmer.
Hubert served the Texas County Food Pantry Board for 21 years and served as board President for 15 years.
Hubert served the City of Licking for a number of years as City Clerk, and also served on the board of alderman
for several years.
He was very handy doing carpenter work around the home which he enjoyed very much. When his grandsons
were too young to go to school they stayed with Papa and they were the apple of his eye. They would follow him
around helping him work. When outside he enjoyed looking around at his finished projects or work comparing
it to how it looked then and how it still looks today.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Flossie, brothers Alfred, Norman, Cubby, sisters Alba Rowden
and Elta Welch.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis, of the home; his son Russ Caton of Rolla, Mo. and daughter Melodia Sue &
Mike Crum of East Lynne Mo.; Grandsons Joey Crum, Springfield Mo. and Justin Crum and wife Katie of Dixon, 2
Great Grand- children Brodee and Baylee Crum of Dixon and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
