Obituary of Doyle Smith

Doyle Stewart Smith, son of Roy and Veva Smith, was born on September 29, 1923 at Licking,
Missouri and passed away on April 5, 2014 at his home in Licking, Missouri at the age of 90.
He was united in marriage to Vivian Lucille Fulks on July 17, 1943 at Plato, Missouri. To this
union four children were born. Doyle and Vivian celebrated 70 years of marriage on July 17,
2013.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son and daughter; grandson, Jeffrey Ary;
brother, Lynn Smith and parents-in-law, John and Lina Fulks.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian; daughter, Phyllis Ary of Canon City, Colorado; and, son,
Charles (Linda) of Licking, Missouri; grandson, John Paul Ary (Carrie) and granddaughter, Paula
TerMeer (Andy) of Canon City, Colorado; grandsons, Brad Smith (Teresa) and Doug Smith
(Shannon) of Licking, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Sarah Ary, Josh Ary, Samantha Ary, Libby
Ary, Dakota Smith, Megan Smith, Dillon Smith, Brady Smith, Nellie TerMeer, and Vivian
TerMeer; great-great granddaughter, Prayli Smith; sisters-in-law, Rozella Smith, Deanna Fulks,
and Marjorie Gracy (Jim), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doyle lived in the Licking area his entire life. He was employed at Fort Leonard Wood while
continuing to farm; He was also an agent for M.F.A. Insurance. He had a great passion for the
outdoors. Doyle killed his first deer in 1945 during the early era in which the sport was first
made possible. He enjoyed hunting deer and elk in Missouri, Colorado, and Idaho until his
health made hunting no longer possible. He fished in many lakes and rivers throughout the
country. His love of hunting and fishing was passed along to his grandchildren through his
guidance and story-telling. He had great respect and a vast knowledge and appreciation for the
natural beauty of trees, grasses, and birds.
He was a member of the Licking Church of Christ where he had attended his entire life. He was
baptized at Sherrill Creek in 1944 by D. L. Lewis. He had a great concern for the work of church.
Doyle was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his family and
friends.
