Kenneth Thomas Cantrill Jr. Obituary

Retired Staff Sergeant Kenneth Thomas Cantrill Jr., age 47, passed away on January 31, 2026, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was born on January 25, 1979, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at St. Rose Dominican Hospital.

Kenneth proudly served in the United States Army for 21 years, including distinguished service as a member of the U.S. Army Band. His military career was defined by dedication, discipline, and a deep love for his fellow soldiers and his country. He took great pride in his service and the lifelong bonds formed along the way.

Following his retirement from the Army, Kenneth continued his commitment to hard work and learning by earning a degree in auto mechanics. He went on to work for TACOM, where he was employed for three years. Even as his health declined, Kenneth remained determined and devoted to his work until cancer made it too difficult to continue—a reflection of his strength and perseverance.

Music was one of Kenneth’s greatest passions. Through his work in the Army Band, he shared his talent and love of music with countless others. Outside of his military service, he was also an enthusiastic train lover, a passion that brought him joy, fascination, and comfort throughout his life.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Heather Cantrill, his devoted partner and constant source of strength. He leaves behind his children, Paul and Elizabeth Cantrill, whom he loved deeply and was incredibly proud of. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Adrianna Hufford and Clayton Hayes, wife Summer Hayes, and his cherished grandson, Isaac Hayes, who brought him immense joy. Kenneth is further survived by his parents, Kenneth and Katherine Cantrill; his sister, Suzzan Ellzey and her husband, Eric Ellzey; and his sister, Kathleen Cantrill. He was a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, son, brother, and friend.

Kenneth Thomas Cantrill Jr.’s life was marked by service, music, dedication, and love. Though cancer took him from this world, it never defined him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fellow soldiers who were honored to know and serve beside.
