Obituary of Bert Jay Silverman

Please share a memory of Bert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bert Silverman, age 84, husband of Diane Silverman, born April 3, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA. Bert passed away on June 9, 2025 at his home in Licking, MO. He moved to Licking from Kingman, AZ four years ago and loved it here. He inherited three daughters when he married Diane; Kathy, Laurie, and Kristin. As a result of those three girls, he had five grandchildren, and countless great-grandchildren. He also had three nieces and one nephew. Bert’s brother, Alan predeceased him by many years, and his sister Brenda just passed in April of this year. He was born in Pennsylvania, lived a few years in New Jersey, but spent most of his time growing up in Cleveland Heights, OH. At 18 he moved to Arizona where he signed up to be an apprentice with IBEW Local 640. He served his apprenticeship and was a journeyman wireman for over 60 years. As a young man in his twenties, he did come travelling, working on a river boat in Alaska on the Tanana & Yukon Rivers for a season, auto trip driving from Nogales, Sonora to Belize and back, then on to Australia where he worked under the NSW Tradesman’s cover since he was a union man doing electric work in a nickel mine in Kalgoorlie. He worked on the “Bayou Chico” sounding for oil off the West Coast of Australia and worked his way home on a Norwegian Freighter. Bert met Diane in 1972 and married her in 1973. They had 52 years together. He was a member of Community Crossroads Church in Raymondville and loved his church and church family. He was a good man. His brother-in-law said there wasn’t a person who met him who wasn’t better off for the experience. He was a giver. He liked to serve whether it was fixing flat tires for people or putting your metal roof back up because the wind blew it off. He was loved! Per Bert’s wishes, he was cremated with a Celebration of Life planned at a later date.
