Obituary of Harvey L. Ryno

Please share a memory of Harvey to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Harvey Lee Ryno was born Aug. 3, 1931, in Blooming Rose, Mo., to Claude Ryno and Inez Lee Ryno. He went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2017. He is now running on streets of gold, breathing freely. Harvey is survived by his loving wife and long term care-taker, Romona, his brother, Howard Ryno, his children, Jerry Ryno, Debra Jett, Jon Wilson, and Stephanie Vincent, grandchildren; Jeremy Neugebauer, Kayla Todaro, Wyatt Wilson, Weston Wilson, B.J. Ferguson, Harley Ferguson, and six great grandchildren; Riley, Harper, Bennett, Elijah, Brody, and Aubrey; and a host of church family, friends, and acquaintances (he never met a stranger). Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Inez, his brothers; Bill, Arley, Wendell, and his sister Jeanie. Harvey worked many jobs in his lifetime. Starting at an early age of fourteen he cut sprouts for fifty cents a day. He then cut logs with a crosscut saw for $5 a day, giving his father $10 a week for room and board. He later worked in a sawmill. After moving to Illinois, he made shingles at the Celatex factory for two years. After which, he joined the Marine Corps, 2nd Bat., 5th Marines, and served in Korea. He was wounded Nov. 10, 1952. He received a Purple Heart Accommodation after twenty-one months of service. He spent eight months in the hospital and 1 ½ months on the hospital ship Jutlanda. Upon discharge, he drove a cab in Fort Leonard Wood for three years. He worked in the Fort Leonard Wood laundry room for a year. He then started working as a mechanic for Gene Hagler, Ford Motor Company, Ray Chevrolet, Montgomery Ward, Pete McBride, and owned his own auto repair shop. Harvey loved life! He loved making the dullest situation bright, bringing light to all circumstances. He loved joking, practical jokes, and shenanigans. And don’t forget those hunting/fishing stories. He had a very tender spirit, concerned for all those around him, especially Romona. Harvey loved playing softball. He was a sneaky pitcher, sliding the ball just barely over the plate. One of his greatest memories was playing against his daughter, Debbie, in which he tagged her out on 3rd base. She stopped and asked him if he would really tag her out and without hesitation he quickly answered, “Why yes! Why wouldn’t I!” Harvey was an avid outdoorsman. He loved searching for treasures with his brother, Wendell, using his metal detector (treasures are in the eyes of the beholder). He loved being outside, fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, and eventually exploring in his motorized wheelchair. One of his great past-times was whittling, quick to share his creations with anyone around him. He also created fishing jigs and sold them to local businesses for resale. Harvey was well known for his SpudR’s Bee Farm in which he sold honey to many local patrons. Harvey lived a full life and was dedicated to his Lord and his church. He will be missed desperately by all who knew and loved him.
