Obituary of Glen I. Shanks

Glen Ira Shanks was born January 2, 1918 in Licking, MO to Ira Shanks and Martha (Dixon) Shanks. He passed away on June 5, 2016 at the age of 98. Glen married Mabel Thomas and to this union 3 children were born, Bettye Ann (Shanks) Behle, Glenda Lou Shanks, and John Ira Shanks. Glen and Mabel lived in the Sherrill community where they owned and operated a service station for many years. Glen worked at Ft. Leonard Wood as a civil service carpenter until he retired. After his retirement, he worked at Ray Chevrolet and later as a school bus driver for the Licking School District. Glen served in the Army during World War II. He was a Shriner and a Mason. He enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinal’s Baseball and spending time with his family. He is survived by 3 children, Bettye Behle and her husband, David, Glenda Shanks, John Shanks and his wife, Jan; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie Meier and her husband, Jason, Rachel Cassel and her husband, Daylon, April Behle, Elizabeth Behle, and Ethan Behle, and 3 great-grandchildren, Jaden and Justin Meier, and Olivia Cassel. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Georgia, his first wife Mabel of 44 years, and his second wife, Gertrude of 26 years.
